Locked-in retirement account (LIRA)

Locked-in retirement account (LIRA)

A LIRA is simply a registered plan intended to receive amounts accrued in a registered pension plan (RPP), also called “retirement plan” or “pension fund.” The term “locked-in” is important here because no withdrawal may be made before the normal retirement age, barring specific circumstances (death, disability, etc.). For example, if you are intending to leave an employer with whom you have a pension fund, please come and see us for advice on how to proceed and to understand the requirements of this type of account.
