A non-registered account is in fact a personal investment account. You benefit from a higher rate of return than that of a simple bank account. Through that account, you can make all sorts of investments for all your projects (education, travel, house, boat, etc.) or simply save money for your retirement income. The key difference is that a non-registered account, contrary to a registered account, will not benefit from the preferential tax treatment that may be afforded to a RRSP or a TFSA, for example, and you pay no annual income tax on your interests, dividends and capital gains.
